The purpose of a meditation practice is not to find “eternal peace” or a permanent state of zen (whatever that may be) but to embrace our authenticity. Altruism and authenticity go hand in hand. We can radiate authenticity once we allow ourselves to soften, to laugh or cry with ease, and to feel the cruelty but brilliance of our world. Meditation allows us to simply sit with our thoughts. No matter how awful, ingenious, or laughable those thoughts may be, we can identify them and let them pass along like the waves rippling with the current—constantly crashing but soon retreating to drift miles and miles away. When we feel authentic, as our truest selves, that bona fide frequency can radiate genuine compassion towards others who hopefully can reciprocate it back. Through authenticity, we can obtain unity. So be sensitive, feel exposed, be kind to yourself, and open your heart to others. Get in touch with your inner child, make silly noises with friends, dance like no one’s watching, be yourself.
Your highest priorities should always be understanding the meaning of your life, discovering your wisdom, and offering your heart to others. Remember this mission statement because it will give you purpose and fulfillment.
